June 2010
While diesel, gas and alternative fuel-based equipment makers in the country are rapidly developing more energy fficient technologies, while cutting down on emission levels, there are other players that are focusing on hybrid fuel and combined heat and power technologies. The race seems to be on to deliver the maximum at the minimum cost. This is an exciting space to watch out for and hence, forms this issue’s cover story.
An equally if not more important aspect of power today, is the implementation of the right IT and automation tools to optimally utilize a power system’s potential. Whether in generation, transmission or distribution, IT interventions today constitute an indispensable backbone to any power system. The spotlight section attempts to present an overview on this.
Amongst other stories, we trace the tussle between the government and private entities over the right to exploit a national resource– natural gas. With the Supreme Court’s verdict out on gas rights, certain corporate entities wrangled with each other before finally playing their cards right for once!
The state of Karnataka recently went the Gujarat way by hosting a Global Investors’ Summit and we thought the time was just right to focus on the state’s initiatives in power generation. From power generation to CDM and clean coal. With thermal generation to remain the mainstay of power dynamics in the country, it is time to take a reality check on how far we have succeeded in checking emissions. All this and more in June.
Wishing you a delightful and informative read.
