Danish wind turbine manufacturer, Vestas has received a 59 MW order from Exelon Wind, a division of Exelon Power for 33 V100-1.8 MW turbines for the Harvest II wind project in Huron County, Michigan, USA.

The contract includes delivery and commissioning, along with a 10-year service and maintenance agreement between the two companies. Th e delivery is scheduled for mid-2012 and commissioning is expected to happen in late 2012.

We are very pleased to be working with Exelon Wind to bring more clean energy to Michigan. Th e V100-1.8 MW is well-designed for the wind speeds of this area,” Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas-American Wind Technology, Inc. said.

Th e contract includes Vestas’ Active Output Management (AOM) 4000 maintenance program, which guarantees turbine availability and includes all planned and unplanned maintenance services. Th e program also includes continuous remote monitoring and surveillance of the project via the VestasOnline® SCADA system. Th e Harvest II wind project will provide enough electricity to power nearly 18,000 Michigan homes. Th e fi rst utility-scale wind power plant in Michigan was commissioned in 2008 and includes 32 Vestas V82-1.65 MW turbines. Exelon Wind also owns the Michigan Wind 2 project, which is under construction and will include 50 V100-1.8 MW turbines. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

The order from Exelon is Vestas’ 12th North American order announcement in 2011. Combined, Vestas has secured orders totaling 1,617 MW for the year in the United States and Canada. It is also the 11th contract secured for a project using V100-1.8 MW turbines in North America since 2010.
